Public Storage Announces Closing Of The All Storage Acquisition Amid Significant Growth Acceleration

Netflix: The video streaming service will report earnings after the market closes. Analysts forecast that Netflix added 8.39m subscribers in the December quarter, fewer than it did in the same three-month period a year earlier when homebound viewers flocked to the website in search of entertainment.

American Airlines: Wall Street forecasts show American Airlines likely benefited from a rebound in leisure travel but continued to operate at a loss in the fourth quarter. Analysts will be looking for comments on the rollout of 5G wireless service, which has drawn concerns from airlines over potential interference with aircraft technology.

Railways: Quarterly results and commentary from Union Pacific and CSX will give investors a fresh look at the state of US supply chains after a winter resurgence of coronavirus cases. Union Pacific, the biggest American rail operator, is expected to book fourth-quarter revenue and earnings growth of 9 per cent and 7 per cent year on year, respectively, in a sign of robust demand for shipping services.

Jobless claims: New applications for unemployment benefits are on pace to fall from a two-month high last week, according to economists’ forecasts. Continuing claims, which are reported on a one-week delay, likely moved higher after hitting their lowest level since 1973 on January 1.

Existing home sales: Transactions for previously owned homes are estimated to have hit an annualised rate of 6.44m in December, down from 6.46m a month earlier, amid limited inventory and rising mortgage rates.

Big Tech: A US Senate committee will begin debating two bills designed to reshape technology regulation and restrain the power of Big Tech. The American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Markets Act will be sent to the Senate floor for a vote if they advance past the committee.

Markets: Futures for the S&P 500 pointed to a 0.2 per cent climb at the opening bell. Nasdaq futures were up 0.3 per cent.
